The SoFAIR consortium is carefully chosen to bring the necessary expertise and interdisciplinarity needed to fulfil the objectives of the project.

All SoFAIR PIs are ​highly reputable scientists​, with much expertise in ​international collaborative projects​.

The Open University (OU)

Knowledge Media institute, STEM, The Open University (Project Coordinator). The mission for openness in teaching and research is integral to The Open University’s (OU) mission. The OU’s team will be represented by the KMi’s Big Scientific Data and Text Analytics group, which consists of a mix of researchers & developers with a unique expertise in the fields of web-scale scholarly text and data mining & machine learning to support research and open science. The team is responsible for running CORE (core.ac.uk), a global scholarly infrastructure with millions of unique visitors every month.

National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA)

Directorate for scientific information and culture. Inria has a long-standing expertise in the topics and technologies related to the project. It has had for many years a deposit mandate for all its publications in the French national repository HAL and has constantly contributed to the design, development and operation of HAL. It has co-founded Software Heritage and hosted its development since its inception. It is involved in the definition of the national open access dashboard where the GROBID technologies have been enhanced and integrated to experiment the extraction of software and data set references in scholarly publications.

Brno University of Technology

Faculty of Information Technology. University has a long research track record in knowledge extraction from text and multimedia, advanced machine learning methods in semantic processing, and evaluation of large-scale information processing solutions. We have participated in various relevant European and national research projects and initiatives, including SAUCE – Smart Asset re-Use in Creative Environments, Horizon 2020, Project No. 780470, 2018-2020, OCCAM – OCR, ClassificAtion & Machine Translation, EC CEF, 2019-2021, MASAPI – Multilingual Assistant for Searching, Analysing and Processing Information and Decision-Making Support, TACR, FW03010656, 2021-2024, and EnetCollect – Large-Scale Information Extraction and Gamification for Crowdsourced Language Learning, EU COST, LTC18006, 2018-2021.

Polish Academy of Sciences

Instytut Badań Literackich Polskiej Akademii Nauk (IBL-PAN). IBL-PAN is the research institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences. IBL-PAN is a leading national centre for documentation, bibliography and scholarly editions, as well as an early adopter of digital methods in the humanities. It was ranked in the ‘Excellent’ category (A+ or A) in two most recent national evaluations of research institutions (2017 & 2021). In 2016 the European Commission awarded the Institute with the certificate of ‘HR Excellence in research’. Digital Humanities Centre at IBL PAN (http://chc.ibl.waw.pl/) is the department responsible for the Institute’s participation in the project. IBL PAN has been involved in the works of major DH networks and consortia: DARIAH, NeDIMAH, OPERAS. It has realised numerous European projects, including TRIPLE, OPERAS-P, OPERAS-PLUS. The Institute was a Polish coordinator for DARIAH survey on scholarly needs and practices, coordinated by DARIAH (http://www.dcu.gr/dimpo).

The European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI)

Europe PMC. EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), an intergovernmental research organisation funded by over 20 member states. EBI, a champion of open data in the life sciences, hosts Europe PMC, which provides comprehensive access to 41.5 million publications, preprints and other documents of life sciences literature from trusted sources. This content is enriched with links to supporting data, reviews, protocols, and other relevant resources. Europe PMC is supported by 37 European funders as their repository of choice.
